The use of helmets for head protection goes as far back as the early BC centuries. The need to keep soldiers safe has been paramount for ages now, and the head has always been a weak spot by which mighty warriors have fallen. I mean, Goliath was killed by a head shot. If only he had a good helmet on, maybe the victim of the story might have been different. Sadly, the helmets that can provide high level of protection for soldiers are often very heavy and inconvenient.

Fortunately, technology and development has boosted the chances of designing tactical helmets that provide high level of ballistic protection without sacrificing comfort and efficiency. The FAST SF helmet is one of the most effective tactical helmets out there today.

The Future Assault Shell Technology, shortly known as the FAST SF Helmet, is a tactical helmet created for combat use and to be worn by soldiers all over the world. Currently, it is being used by special forces units in different countries. The FAST-tactical helmet offers high-level protection to those who are seeking to an alternative headgear without trading ballistic protection for comfort or light weight.

The FAST SF helmet was developed by the U.S. Army Research Laboratory, working hand in hand with the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center and the Program Executive Office (PEO) Soldier. The development of the FAST helmet was a part of the Army Manufacturing Technology (ManTech) Program. It also led to the creation of other tactical helmets such as the Maritime helmet and the Enhanced Combat Helmet (ECH).

FAST helmets literally allow soldier to be faster in response, in movement, and in agility. It has a 25% weight reduction compared to regular tactical helmets. Also, it offers extreme ballistic protection. The helmet is designed with ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene fibers (UHMWPE), a very resistant material. It also allows the use and attachment of communications systems.
